Discover Israel: ‘The land of milk and honey’

Friday, 19 June 2009

Merav Gonen, Tourism Officer , Israel Trade Commission

An Israel Tourism breakfast briefing for travel agents was held at the Sydney Hilton on Thursday.

Run by the Israeli Trade & Tourism Commission, the program included an opening presentation on “Destination – Israel!”

Merav Gonen, Tourism Officer, Israel Trade Commission described Israel as a “tiny dot on the world map, but a very special dot”.

The tiny country of Israel is only about 29,000 square kilometers, making it approximately 40% the size of Tasmania.

Merav said the “compact geography of Israel makes it very easy to travel”, with barely an hour’s drive separating Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, Tel Aviv and Haifa, Haifa and the heart of the Galilee,  Tel Aviv and Be‘er Sheva.

Merav said that Israel has something to match the tastes of every traveller: from ancient biblical sites to red sea resorts, from the spiritual heights of Jerusalem to the lowest point on earth at the Dead-Sea, mountains & deserts, ancient & modern, history and culture, people and landscapes.

Dr David Beirman formally launched Greece and Mediterranean Travel Centre’s Israel brochure, at the breakfast briefing.

Dr Beirman said the brochure launch marks the first time since 1997 that a mainstream Australian wholesaler has produced a dedicated Israel brochure.

Other Israeli related travel product presentations were offered by tour operators: Adventure World & Coral Seas, El-Al Israeli Airline and Tempo Holidays.
