Background
Locally developed technology and know-how has made Israel's agriculture one of the most efficient in the world. Israel's own example is the best advertisement for the products and services she produces. Efficient water management using drip and micro-sprinkler irrigation technologies have assisted in overcoming water shortages. Combine this with the genetic development of higher quality seeds and livestock, the development of intensive greenhouse agriculture, and the prudent use of fertilisers and pesticides has enabled Israel to turn the desert into lush pastures and to feed its population.
Israel is a garden of agricultural with peak yields of tomatoes reaching 500 tons per hectare, average annual egg production of 280 per layer, annual milk yields per cow have reached over 10,000 litres, the Negev Desert has seen 80 tons of citrus grown per hectare, and unique biotechnologies are used to improve the nutritional balue of wheat grains and parasite-resistant corn strains etc
Opportunities
Israeli agricultural companies export more than simply their products - they also export their experience and services, which allows for the necessary flexible approach. As the Australian economy is very much focused on Agriculture, and exporting its grains, livestock etc, they can gain much from Israeli agricultural technology.
