Government

Israel is a parliamentary democracy with general elections held every four years for the Parliament (Knesset). There is no Upper House or Senate, and the leader of the party with the most votes from the single Israeli electorate is appointed Prime Minister. The current Prime Minister is Ariel Sharon. The President of Israel is a ceremonial Head of State, and currently this position is held by Moshe Katsav.
