I came back recently from my first visit to Perth. I have to admit that the city is a real gem and people are extremely friendly and welcoming.  I visited Perth on the occasion of the Israeli National pavilion we held at OzWater. It was a real success! We had 5 Israeli companies presenting various water technologies such as drip irrigation, membrane filtering, waste water treatment, desalination and intelligent water management.

The Israeli delegation were kept busy with over 50 meetings scheduled for them throughout the exhibition, including with several major Australian water utility companies such as Watercorp, South East Queensland Water, and Hunter Water. In addition to the OzWater exhibition, the Israeli delegation also participated in a Water Seminar, hosted by Rio Tinto Iron Ore at their offices in Perth.

Over 100 senior executives attended this seminar, jointly organised by the AICC in WA, to hear from the Israeli companies about the latest technologies coming out of the Israeli water sector, as well as from Allan Jackson, General Manager of Climate Change Water & Environment, on the water challenges facing Rio Tinto Iron Ore in their mining projects. Also in attendance at the seminar was the Hon Ken Baston MLC, Minister for Agriculture and Food, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of Western Australia, as well as the Hon Terry Redman MLA, Minister for Training and Workforce Development; Water; Forestry, Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Government of Western Australia. Following the seminar, the Israeli companies had private meetings with Rio Tinto where they discussed potential business relationships and collaboration for the future in greater detail.

Many of the participants at the seminar expressed their interest to join the Australian delegation to Watec in October in order to learn more about what Israel has to offer in terms of innovative water technologies.

We are now finalizing the program of our delegation to the Israeli life sciences week. The delegation is led by David Morris, the Chief Strategy Officer of Cochlear and comprises of leading medical devices distributors, biotech companies and a representative of the NSW Health. During their visit they will be introduced to Israeli companies, they will have a professional tour at one of the Israeli hospitals and will participate in the MEDinISRAEL conference.

Some other great news from Victoria, VISTECH is back on track. The Victorian Minister for Innovation, Services and Small Business Louise Asher announced yesterday  a new program to connect Victorian science and technology companies with their counterparts in Israel to develop innovative R&D projects.

Ms Asher said that the Victorian Israel Science lnnovation and Technology Scheme (VISITS) will provide opportunities for Victorian companies to explore partnerships with Israeli companies. Through the VISITS program, Victorian companies can seek funding to attend recognised trade missions, conferences and meetings in Israel; develop, test or commercialise new services or products; or create new global market opportunities, in partnership with Israeli companies.

“Through collaboration and international partnering, we are more likely to develop mutually beneficial projects and improve economic outcomes for both Victoria and Israel,” Ms Asher said.

Ms Asher also announced that Deputy Premier Peter Ryan would lead a mission to Israel in mid-July. “We are now seeking applicants from Victorian science and technology companies to travel to Israel to explore opportunities with Israel counterparts,” Mr Ryan said.

The VISITS program is open to all private and public sector organisations with interests in biotechnology, small technologies, information and communication technology, clean technologies and advanced manufacturing.
