As reported by State Library of New South Wales The First Fleet contained at least eight and as many as 14 Jewish convicts. From 1788, Jewish people have made their presence felt in Australia. Esther Abrahams and many other convicts of Jewish heritage later become successful in business, arts and many other fields. Bolstered by the arrival of thousands of free immigrants, the Jewish community grew and made great contributions to Australian cultural, sporting, religious and public life. to read more.
